Ok - we are 4 weeks in to this. Here are some of the comments from the Zone Team:
"I got a little overconfident last week because the weight was coming off nicely and I felt I deserved peanuts and candy corn mixed together. Don't do it.....stop.... walk away from the candy jar. After a session of Tabata handfuls of the deadly mixture (eat for 20 seconds rest for 10...) I finally got a hold of myself. This went on and on over the next few days. Finally, yesterday morning, I took the big can of peanuts (from Sams) with the 2 bags of candy corn mixed in it and threw the 3/4ths full container in the TRASH. Then I put grass clippings and watermelon rinds on top of that so I wouldn't be tempted to fetch it from the bottom of the can. Whew!! Thank god I did that because all day, I was thinking about it. It is soooooo good. Tastes just like a Payday candybar. But, knowing my weakness, I had to get rid of it. So yesterday and today have been total Zone meals. I feel pretty good.
My favorite lunch is 2 corn tortillas with shredded chicken (roasted ones from the deli), low fat shredded cheese, 2 T. guacamole and a few chopped tomatoes. Breakfast is still egg whites, ham and cheese on a low fat tortilla with a glass of milk. Dinner often starts with salmon from whole foods, lots of broccoli and strawberries and cool whip.
I am learning to be very patient with this. While I want results FAST, it is gratifying that I'm not killing myself on this diet and am still losing a respectable 1.25 lbs of fat each week. Over the long run, it will all add up. We all work out too hard at Crossfit not to have our muscles "pop" and I think the Zone is the total way to go to get rid of that fat layer covering up our hard earned muscles. The beautiful thing about the zone is that when you fall off one meal, you get back up and try again on the next. Saturday is pretty much my free day. I'm usually good at breakfast and lunch, but at dinner, I kinda let go. It re-motivates me for the next week. I hope all is well with all of you and you are not giving up. Our bodies and blood chemistry will thank us."
"This, the fourth week of the zone diet in the 2007th year of our lord, my weight has plateaued.(Insert teardrop) It was a crushing blow to my self esteem but alas I will try not to be too hard on myself. I have taken a cheat day every other Saturday the first of which being the most ridiculous. But my second cheat day wasn't as extreme, as I was functional and coherent the next day. My clothes are fitting better and I've gone from 5 kipping pull ups to 10-11. My strength seems to be coming along nicely so I am hoping that this plateau is temporary. Total I am still down around 8lbs so I am still happy with my overall results."
"Ok - my turn for confession. I was doing so well that I thought I needed to cheat big time so that I could truly appreciate the Zone. It started on Saturday and was suppose to end today. If only I had thrown out all those chocolate caramel kisses yesterday I would not have had to eat them all today to get rid of them. Besides feeling sluggish with all the extra carbs and calories - I was also more moody - snapped big time at my daughter. I continued to binge on all types of stuff trying to feel better. I now know that if I don't have the right amount of protein and fat with the carbs my cravings become uncontrollable! My name is Laurie and I'm a carboholic."
