Is CrossFit the same as Crosstraining?
CrossFit is a type of Crosstraining but Crosstraining is not CrossFit. CrossFit incorporates functional movements – we do not use machines or do exercises specifically to isolate a muscle. We use exercises from powerlifting, Olympic lifting and gymnastics. Our equipment consists of barbells, dumbbells, ropes, pull-up bars, rings, medicine balls, boxes, rowers and kettlebells.
Are there other CrossFit locations?
CrossFit started in 2002 and the CrossFit website was launched in 2003.
Between 2003 and 2006 there were approximately 100 new CrossFit Affiliations/Gyms created and CrossFit St. Louis was one of them.
Since January 2007 there have been an additional 1200 + CrossFit Affiliates added to the worldwide CrossFit community.
Do all CrossFit gyms operate the same way?
Each CrossFit gym is independently owned and operated. We all use CrossFit methods but the programming, qualifications of instructors, facilities, fees and class format will vary at each gym.
If I purchase a class card at CrossFit St. Louis can I use it to attend classes at other CrossFit gyms.
Since each gym is privately owned memberships are only valid at the location where it was purchased.
I am new to CrossFit but I am really fit – can I drop in and try a class.
We have specific requirements that will need to be met before jumping into our classes. Classes are intense, challenging, and move quickly. New athletes will need to learn how to effectively and safely execute the movement patterns performed before participating in regular CrossFit classes. Click Here for more information.
What qualifications should I look for in a CrossFit Trainer?
To train CrossFit the bare minimum requirement is a CrossFit Level 1 Certification. This ensures the trainer is introduced and trained on the 9 functional movements that are the foundation of CrossFit.
The barbell movements are very technical so additional training and education in the areas of Olympic Lifting and Barbell Strength Training is something to consider.
CrossFit offers many specialty certifications/ instructional seminars. Exposure to the many aspects of CrossFit by a trainer is beneficial.
Experience training CrossFit is also very important. Exposure training a wide variety of people will generally improve a trainer’s abilities and knowledge.
Don’t always rely on just the number of certifications held by a trainer or the years of experience. There are many things that go into making a great trainer. Please interview the people you are trusting with your fitness.
